Grand Concert: BBC National Chorus of Wales sing Carmina Burana

  • Brecon Cathedral Cathedral Close Brecon, LD3 9DP (map)

The audience experienced the electrifying power of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, performed by the BBC National Chorus of Wales in the majestic Brecon Cathedral.

• Featuring its iconic opening, O Fortuna, this spellbinding work blends ancient pagan poetry with thrilling music. The choir was accompanied by two pianos and percussion, in a version of Carmina Burana approved by the composer for more flexible performance.

• Acclaimed soloists from Continuum joined forces with one of Britain’s leading choirs for an unforgettable evening of choral brilliance.

• We heard the 2025 Young Singer of the Year Winner, Leisa Edwards.

The first half of this concert included a special premiere performance of the R.S. Thomas poem 'Song' by Lucy Walker, as well as performances of ‘There was a Garden’ by Alex Mills and ‘Strange Light’ by Jeremy Thurlow both set to poems by Thomas.
